Default 2x10K 175W Ushio Mogul based bulbs FS/FT

Hey All,

I'm going to put these up for sale as well, but I may as well see if anyone has anything they'd like to trade also.

I have two brand new 10K 175W Ushio Mogul based bulbs that I can't use and would like to sell. They are the best on the market for saltwater coral reefs. I got a good price on them but did not check that my ballasts were correct for these lights. So, I can't use them. They sell for ~$200 in any local fish store. I got them for much less, so you get them for much less. These are brand new. I never even plugged them in.

46 Gal bowfront - 350W MH - 65W PC Actinic -CS90 Skimmer - SQWD with locline outputs - 18G refugium RDP- 1/4 HP chiller - 2x96W PCs on sump a fuge for coral frags and macro.
It's an overcrowded home with a little of everything and 5 fish. Thank good the fuge and sump were built for something bigger.

Why can't you use them I like ushios myself moving up in wattage or they can't start with the ballast you now have ? I can tell you how to get your transformers to fire them if thats the case and will run brighter and cooler just like an electronic ballast will. I just went to 400 W 1,400 K and changed to SPS brand {South Pacific Sun} These bulbs Seem fine never used them before myself I was kind of asked to evaluate them . But the old Ushios 10,000 K are a great bulb I used them only for many yrs. Still have two or three brand new ones myself in a box around here somewhere.

Hey Tangster,

I have a probe start ballast and they require a pulse start. If you have a trick to get around this, I'd love to use them. I bought some XM 10K lights hoping they'd have as nice a color as the Ushios, but they are a little yellow for me. Great growth, but not enough white/blue in my tank.

I use the old 30.00 Iron core transformers for all of my M/H lamps and when Ushios went to the new starter bulbs I just put a Supco electronic hard start on my lamp capacitors easy to do Take them from the package and clip onto the 15MFD start capacitor that is inside your ballast box. Takes about 2 seconds to install What brand boxes do you have ? Hamilton's or something like them ? Here is a link to what you need

You've got to be kidding me! This is sooooooo up my alley. My father was an elictrical engineer and my brother designed speakers and speaker components, so I LOVE frankensteining electronics. Off the top of my head I'm not sure which ballasts I have. I removed the stickers because I liked the slick black look. I'll go check my spare and see what it is. Thanks Tangster! Karma......MUCH Karma for this one.
