| i was trying to put together a list on what it might cost to do this, and i only got into the building and tanks, and yeah, it cost way to much to start a brand new one. if i could find one for sale then maybe, i think it would be really fun to run

| I should add... since I started this thread ...
I did seriously consider this at one time after working in some aquarium stores.
However I concluded I was more comfortable promoting better husbandry and such techniques that would help keep our friends alive via information on 3reef than having a store.
If I were to own an aquarium store, I would carry fish that aren't about to die off in the real world, corals that are farmed and provide information on having a reef aquarium that doesn't tax the ocean too much and may actually help it via sharing knowledge on sustaining certain species etc.
But that's just me. |

| Thats why you check out your suppliers! Dont just take their word on it. If its a farmed coral (maricultured or aquacultured) it will come on some kind of disk or plug, zoa's being an exception since rubble is good for them too. Only stock hardier species of fish, but have the more delicate stuff available for special order at the customers risk, which a lot of reputible online and LFS vendors do that. Anything being shipped to you, assume a 10-20% loss nonrefundable. _________ Got Questions? Need Answers? "Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it." Andre Gide |

For sure you raise a very tender point. I belive that the specialist stores you find out their will be the ones that are actualy useing these practices ( for sure not all ) |

| I work at an lfs part time and I would never ever ever get into the business. I enjoy the hobby too much to ruin it by having it be my full time job. It's also a very difficult business to get into with a heck of alot more downs than ups and sales rarely ever cover your overhead (unless you've got a niche in your area or do/offer something that none of your competition does) |
