I overflowed one time, then decided I would ensure it never happened again. My overflow got partially clogged and the pump continued to pump water up.
Had to clean about ten gallons off the floor before my wife came down the stairs and killed me. I built a water level valve shutoff for the pump so it would never happen again.

Here is a fun one.
I filled my 75 gal for the first time with sink water before I had an RO. Then i disconnected the side that came from the sink. My wife's cats were having fun and pulled it out of the sink when I was taking a call from my wife. (i'm only allowed to do tank projects when she is gown) So when I got off the phone upstairs where the reception was better I came downstairs to half of that 75 empty and the rest on the floor bc. the cats started the reverse syphon. The kitchen was flooded. The laundry room flooded. And about 6 feet into the family room was flooded. The only funny part was that 2 of cats were stranded on top of the salt bucket. If i wan't freaking out so bad i would have taken a picture of them stranded in the big flood.

Ohh yea and the clean up did not happen before the wife got home. (Also having to do with why all projects must be done while she is not home. :-)

I still blame her cats

I had a 180 on my second floor blow out at a corner on night at 2:30 AM seam opened up to all but inches from the bottom just enough to keep the fish wet (: Corals suffered little from being high and dry until the sun came up .. That was a fun night..The next day was no day at the beach either. And as for the overflows getting stopped up just make strainers drilling 1/4 holes in a 6 inch section of the correct size pipe and add a blind cap on the bottom . The Duso guy did not know the whole story (:
