| Just my thoughts.
I say no.
If you do it can become clogged and thus will reduce your flow.
If in a sump or fuge, and depending on the design only tiny bits of junk will get in anyways and those should not hurt your pump at all when it goes through.
The positives however are to keep anything away from the pump that could clogged it or to create another area for beneficial bacteria.

| You could also put the carbon at the end of your overflow so that it does not put more strain on your pump |

| | 3reef Moderator | I do not have an internal return pump but I did.
I voted no as well. I use This
on the overflows to catch debre prior to is entering the sump. I change them every 3 days and pop them into the washing machine. Work Great

| Funny you should bring that up as I just removed my prrefilter sponges for my sump return and the pump running my skimmer. The water was slowing down as the sponge was blocking the water flow...I took them off to clean them, but i think I will leave them off to allow the pumps to work more freely and have a stronger water flow!!!!! _________ 125gal.w/Mag9.5 return(dual megaflow)>Mag7 pump Aqua Cev180skimmer.Wave2k Hamilton Reefstar(2)250watthqi(mh)pend.a Yellow, Naso Tang Red Lip Blenny Percula Clown Demoiselles Niger Trigger F. | No,
My water goes through a sponge filter before it goes into the pump chamber in my sump/fuge.

| I use one because I had a snail sneak in to my pump before no good. Also if I put a strainer on the return pump then I reduce its power. I rinse the sponge every week. _________ "The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing"
