I think he is trying to say that if you screw with the sand, you might inadvertently release some of the anaerobic bacteria and have a spike in the ammonia. When I took out my CC and replaced with sand, I put some nitrifying bacteria in to offset whatever ammonia spike that was to come. I had plenty of live rock and saved my water and everything turned out fine. |
