beats me why they change the water I have never followed that line of thought what I do is run 1/2 cup of good quality carbon per 25 gallons of tank water for about 3 day and then change that out and replace it then follow this for about 5 changes and crank the skimmer back up when toy start the carbon I have used this method all the time with water tinging from antibiotic's its always worked just fine for me.
