I just found something on the web to answer my question. Let me post it here for anyone else that is wondering what I did.

The turnover rate of the water in your tank should be between 10-15x so if I have a 55Gal tank
55x10 = 550 GPH
55x15 = 825 GPH

So I should aim for between 550 and 825 GPH overflow and pump.
