Default Halloween ruining my star polyps

Hello all,
Well lastnight I purchased a large peice of LR with some awesome green star polyps. Well about 30 minutes or so after I acclimated and placed them in my tank...one of my Halloween hermit crabs climbed right on and started eating some of the purple mat......I wasnt sure at first if that is what he was munching on because he was on a part of bare LR at first but then he moved over and started picking on the polyps. I managed to knock him off and place him all the way on the other corner of the tank, and of course he just crawled right back and started picking at it again!!! Then about 10 minutes later, one of my smaller red reef hermits joined him for a midnight snack!!!!! AHHH

I did research the polyps prior to purchasing and didnt come across any issues with this, and have since looked around for issues with Hermits eating these and didnt find anything either.....has anyone else has or heard of this problem???

*BTW, I have talked with a few people on this message board about their interest in Halloween Hermit Crabs (Black w/ Orange Stripes) and let me just say....those things grow OUT OF CONTROL...they have gone thru like 5 shell sizes in a span of about 4-5 months....they are HUGE!!!! And my red reef hermits have basically stayed the same size! They are little mosters!!! hehehe Just an FYI!
