To break down organic wastes and improve water quality and clarity. It can target some organics that a protein skimmer cannot. For example, the yellowing compounds in the water. It may also improve oxygenation in the water.

You can seriously screw up your system however if you are not careful. I am probably being overcareful at the moment

Ozone may kill off some bacteria and parasites, similar to a UV, but the higher you run it, the more good stuff can be killed off as well. All the way up to fairly sterile water in which nothing can live. Not goin there!
