Probably normal. Have you increased the bioload on the tank?
It sounds like cyanobacteria. Icky messy stuff! Due to excess nutrients in the system.
Could you give us a run down on what you have? Tank size and filtration? How many fish and how long has the tank been running...etc 
Then maybe we could help a bit more!
