Simple plug-play onto the power head. It does decrease the flow of the power head maybe 20%. We are using them in a small softie tank so I wasn't really too concerned with the flow loss. It is silent. I havn't had to take it apart so I'm not sure of the gearing. Both units are getting good coralline growth so I was waiting for them to quit rotating before soaking in vinager. For the money......13 bucks. I'd say they are a descent buy. If you wanted to use them on an sps or higher flow tank? Save your $. Scott _________ Researching NTS.......No Tank Syndrome.
