Default Re: Treating Black Ich

wow, i havent seen black ich in 4 years.....not as bad as regular ich but need different treatment mothods. THe best ive seen is a series of fresh water dips and the addition of formaline meds to them. If the fish isnt showing very visible signs of sickess (dissorientaion, severe twitching, or very rapid breathin....2or 3-4 times per second) then i would do a fresh water dip for 2-4 miuntes with the addiction of a formaline based med regularly until the slk ich is gone. It is a substrate dwelling flatworm that reproduces far less than regular ich, but is just as contagious. Dont worry as if yuove battled ich before (won or lost) it is not as bad...just less commin. I've only seen it start on tangs ironically enough....but it can spread. i would isolate the tang and give it dips every 4 days in FW and every 8 days with formalin......so first with FW and formalin.....4 days later fw.....4 days later FW and formalin....ect. I do 2 treatments then wait a week and do 2 more. Just think of it as its not nearly bad as regular ich. I hope this helps...il read other posts and sites before treating though.....but isolation and treatment is the key.
