Default Re: POSSIBLE TO BUILD MY OWN GLASS TANK?

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE, THE MAIN REASON I WANT TO BUILD ONE, IS BECAUSE OF THE COST, THE PROBLEM WITH BEING IN ALASKA, IS THAT I AM VERY LIMITED AS FAR AS HAVING A GOOD STORE THAT CARRIES WHAT I WANT, THEY SEEM TO HAVE TANKS, BUT THEY ARE ALL STANDARD SIZES, UP TO 100G, BUT I GUESS I FIND THEM BORING?? PLUS THEY WANT A SMALL FORTUNE FOR ONE UP HERE, (CLAIM OUTRAGEOUS SHIPPING COSTS?) FOR A BAREBONES 55G TANK I AM LOOKING AT AROUND 175-250 AT LEAST. AND THEY JUST LOOK CHEAP, THEY ARE USUALLY "ALL GLASS AQUARIUMS" THEY LOOK GOOD FOR A GERBIL BUT NOT FOR WHAT I WANT.
A FRIEND OF MINE HAS A WINDOW SHOP, HE HAS A HUGE TABLE-CUTTER THAT WILL CUT 12' X 12' SHEETS OF GLASS, ALL COMPUTERIZED.. IT IS AWESOME! PLUS HE HAS ALL THE SUCTION CUP CARRIERS. SO THAT'S NOT A PROBLEM.
I AM REALLY EXCITED TO BUILD ONE, BUT NERVOUS. I JUST GOT BACK FROM THE FISH STORE, THEY ARE DOWNSIZING THEIR SALTWATER DEPT. AND HAVE 2 EELS, A YELLOW-HEAD AND SOMETHING THEY CALLED A "TSE" ? BOTH ARE OVER 3' AND NICE AND FAT! HUGE!
$99.00 EACH!! I THOUGHT THAT WAS A GREAT DEAL? NORMALLY 599.00, HE JUST WANTS TO GET RID OF TH EM. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL!... I WANTED TO BRING THEM HOME TODAY!! IT IS HARD TO HAVE PATIENCE, CONSIDERING I AM STILL ON THE TANK ASPECT! I AM LOOKING AT SEVERAL MONTHS STILL. BUMMER

ANOTHER QUESTION..
WHAT EXPERIENCES HAS EVERYONE HAD WITH AQUARIUM SALT BRANDS... OCEANIC AND KENT MARINE? I READ IN THE FORUMS ABOUT OCEANIC, ONE GUY HAD SEVERE PROBLEMS WITH OCEANIC BRAND. SO I AM LEARY ABOUT THAT..
I NEED TO RESEARCH LIVE SAND ALSO, IS THE SAND THAT COMES IN A SEALED BAG WITH WATER IN IT ANY GOOD??? OR SHOULD I LOOK ELSEWHERE? ANY SUGGESTIONS?? I WILL KEEP READING FORUMS ALSO.. A WEALTH OF INFORMATION.
THANKS TO EVERYONE!
