Marine Ornamentals ’04 (MO’04), the 3rd in a series of conferences where the marine ornamentals community comes together to discuss critical issues that will determine the industry’s future. MO’04 is being held March 1-4, 2004 in conjunction with the annual meeting of the World Aquaculture Society.

This conference will focus on an economically and environmentally viable marine ornamentals industry by: 1) Improving the methods for the collection, distribution, and management of wild marine ornamental species; 2) Increasing the variety, quantity and availability of cultured marine ornamental species; 3) Encouraging education and outreach activities in the husbandry and conservation of marine ornamental species.

The program themes include: · World economics and product demand at all levels; · Ethnic, social and cultural issues; · Fisheries database development; · Scientific and industry partnerships; · Aquatic animal health; · Industry standards and certification; · Public outreach and education; · Regulatory issues; · Community-based reef management; · Fishing resources; · Reef conservation and industry sustainability; · Community-based culturing; · Larval rearing; · Life support systems and culture technology; · Biotechnology; · Invertebrate culture; · Shipping and handling; · Export/import impacts on global distribution.
